Some good days...

Annabel has had about 3 good days and nights!!! he is still not eating like she was but she is eating a little more without all the gagging and wretching. I was doing what the urologist said and that was to ignore her infection. With Annabel, I can't just do that. She got too sick before he decided to do something and then she just couldn't bounce back! But smile are easier to get and that is a great sign. I am still researching about what is best as far as vesicostomy or what else. We are cathing her every 3 hours just to keep her drained.

I have been meaning to comment and I keep getting sidetracked! You were emailing me about the overnight cath and such. We did that for two years, but we never used a foley catheter with a balloon. We just used the straight in and out catheter, and taped it to her. Then cut a whole in her diaper, and thread it out the whole (yes, like a penis sticking out of the center of the diaper LOL). Tape around the catheter, sealing off the hole you cut. Then put a second diaper on over the first. This will let her pee into the outer diaper, and keep poop in the inner diaper. This way it won't get in the end of the cath, because it's in the second diaper. I hope that makes sense! Email me if you want me to try and explain it better, LOL.

Like I said, we did this for two years. It let her drain all night and definately helped her bladder spasms and infections.

I hope this helps! By the way, I absolutely LOVE her dress in these pictures! I am looking at smocked dresses right now for Peanut's birthday. Too cute. :)

Hi again. ;) When we weren't sure if Peanut was having bladder spasms or not, the urologist had us try her on Ditropan (Oxybutinin). It worked MIRACLES! Now since the Mitrofanoff surgery she needs two doses a day instead of just the one at bedtime. It really made a HUGE difference in how comfortable she was overnight. Perhaps mention it to the urologist, see if you can try the medication? It would be great if it helped!

Hi, I read your blog about the vesicostomy. I don't understand about being wet all the time? My daughter has a Mitrofanoff, she wears "briefs" (diapers for older kids, so called because older kids don't wear diapers) and isn't wet at all. Can you explain what you mean? We cath Emily 4-5x a day through the stoma and she wears a soft foley at night, taped to the stoma because her bladder will over fill and she gets infections easily. She has a drain bag on the foley which is hung under her bed. The tubing is pretty long on the drain bag. Our daughter doesn't move around so it is not difficult to keep her tangle free.
