Potty Update....

I promise after this post, there will be NO MORE about potty issues. Annabel has continued to have success with her potty time. Within about a minute of placing her on her potty she begins to have success. She now claps for herself and is so proud. Maybe we overdue things just a bit around here, but little steps are a huge accomplishment!! I am sure we will have bumps in the road as with any child, but at this point with Annabel being non-verbal and non-ambulatory, I will just need to be diligent about getting her there. Just added a few more pics (these with clothes) of her on her new pink (of course) potty. It's amazing how they say a child with T18 has a minimal chance of doing "normal" activities, but here she is going strong at her own pace. It makes me step back and think to never say never when life has so many possibilities no matter what the diagnosis or disorder. God has put each one of us on earth for a reason so there is nothing wrong with enjoying the little things that each day brings. Hope that my sharing about Annabel's achievements helps everyone else through their struggles.

I am very proud of you, many parents would never have even considered trying. You really are a Godsend. I am so proud of Annabel, I can not wait to see it for myself.

Cathy,
Good job to you and Annabel! Keep on trying. We worked on potty training with Morgan, he did very well with both tinkle and poo. But he is now too heavy for me to get on the potty by myself. We are hoping after his scoliosis surgery that he might be able to do more weight bearing again and then we will start all over.

Annabel continues to be as cute as ever! Pink is her color.

love,
Holly & Morgan

Cathy,

"Never say Never" is absolutely right!! I am so proud of Annabel and all that she is doing to amaze you. The look of pride on her face is just priceless. In all the craziness of this life, what a blessing to see how Annabel thrives and proves the statistics WRONG!!!:) I just love this little peach. Maybe I could "borrow" her to teach my grandson? His "syndrome" is called STUBBORN KID.:) I love you girl and hope your weekend is a wonderful one filled with joy. Hug that girl for me!!

Love, Laurie in Ca.

Isn't she pleased with herself! What a clever little girl you have! I wonder if she will be able to start telling you when she needs to go - I know she's non-verbal, as yet, but she very obviously can communicate non-verbally, so she may well develop a "word" (does she sign?) to let you know.

Thank you for the sweet comments. Yes we are working on some signs now. She can do more and response to eat and drink. I get lazy due to the fact that I feel like I can communicate so easy with her. That is I know what she seems to always want. Of course, that doesn't make it easy for others. Again, you all are so sweet to take time to read her blog and make the sweetest comments. I am SO encouraged to know Annabel can be potty trained! Yes, I do think about when if ever Vera can "do it" on her own. And Annabel seems so happy! Sometimes I wish Vera would smile more...she's not been smiling much these days.

You are a remarkable mom with an amazing daughter. You had posted to a friend of mines blog about her 3 week old daughter Molly. With a sad heart I have wondered how many days they will be blessed to have Molly here. When I saw that you have a 3 year old I had to know more about the hope Molly may have. Thank you for reaching out to another mom.

Cathy:
I'm one of those annoying "secret readers." I usually don't feel like I've got anything constructive to say at all.
But, now I do. You appologize for sharing about Annabel's potty training (or attempts at it). I have spent a lot of time teaching two year olds. To me, potty time is a rite of passage. Sure, she's older than a lot of kids are when they do the potty thing. But it's so... ordinary. I don't know how this is going to come across. Annabel is a beautiful, amazing girl. And potty training is such a regular part of life. To read that there's even a hint of it is... uplifting. And just so you know, in a classroom full of two year olds, the things that are deposited in toilettes, and the methods of said depositing, are by FAR the most frequent topic of conversation!
